It‘s hard to believe we are well into the month of June already, and Sunday, June 15 is Father’s Day! Father’s Day is a wonderful day to celebrate dads and show them how much we love and appreciate them. I think some of the most memorable and special gifts a parent can receive from a child are the ones they make with their own little hands. Today I would like to share a Father’s Day craft with you. This craft is easy enough for kids of all ages to make (with a little help from Mom), and will make perfect homemade gift for Dad, who enjoys a cold beer on a hot day!
Supplies to make the bottle cap coasters (a great gift for Dad):
- Coaster mold. You can purchase the mold at your local craft store. Or you can use a flat bottomed, empty round or square plastic container. You can pick the size and shape you want.
- Casting resin. I purchased a resin kit at my local Michael’s store. It came with two bottles of solution that you mix together, measuring cups and mixing sticks.
- Mold release conditioner
- Variety of beer bottle caps
Steps to make the gift for Dad:
Step 1: Spray your mold with mold release spray for easy removal of the coasters after they are dry.
Step 2: Measure equal parts of the casting resin. I used 2 tablespoons of each. When mixed together, and poured into the mold I used, it was the perfect amount. The amount you need will vary depending on the size of the mold you are using.
Step 3: Thoroughly mix the two parts together. I used a stick that was provided in my resin kit. A Popsicle stick would work great too.
Step 4: Pour mixture into your mold. This casting resin cures in 10 minutes. Tap the bottom to get rid of any bubbles that may appear.
Step 5: Since this resin sets rather quickly, right away have the kids carefully place the bottle caps in the resin pressing down lightly. Be sure the caps are level before the resin completely dries. Let the kids use as many or as little amount of bottle caps they like!
Step 6: After resin is dry, remove the coaster from the mold. If you want to make a set of two or four coasters, just repeat the process!
Step 7: Stack the coasters, tie them with a ribbon and add a gift tag. Pair the coasters with a six pack of dad’s favorite beer, and you have the perfect gift for Dad!
This is a fun and unique Father’s Day craft! Along with being an easy craft, we love that it recycles used bottle caps! ChristmasOrnaments.com has a variety of Dad ornaments and recycled can ornaments that will make a great gift for Dad too! I hope you liked this Father’s Day craft idea, and Happy Father’s Day to all of the awesome dads out there!
