Hi, I’m Donni Webber, a writer of my own DIY blog. When Dianne Weller, owner of ChristmasOrnaments.com contacted me to see if I’d be interested in creating some special Christmas ornament DIY projects for her, I was delighted and jumped at the chance to write for this wonderful site that’s full of unique and decorative Christmas Ornaments.  Today we are going to make hand painted glass Christmas ornaments!  With just a few easy steps, you will be amazed at the beautiful ornament you will be able to make.

Steps to make Hand Painted Glass Christmas Ornaments

The supplies we needed:

Glass orbs (found at Michaels Craft Store)
Colorful acrylic paint
Christmas ribbon

Time: 10 minutes to make and 4 hours for the paint to dry.

Both of my children loved making these colorful ornaments. We began by clicking off the silver hangers from each glass orb.

We carefully poured a little of the acrylic paint into each orb. The color paints you use is totally your choice… you can mix many colors together or make your ornament just one solid color… we used green and blue because green is Kitty’s favorite color and blue is Teddy’s :-)

With paint in each glass orb, we held our thumbs over the opening and shook the orb vigorously. Of course, we made sure that there was nothing in our way to bang the glass against as we have to be extra careful when working with children and glass.

When our paint was wonderfully dispersed all around the inside of our orb in gorgeous swirls of green and blue, we set it it an old yogurt tub, in the shade outside, to dry for about 4 hours. Every hour, I rotated the orb a little so that the wet paint did not pool on one side.Once the paint had dried,  we clipped the silver hanger back into place, tied a pretty Christmas ribbon into a bow and hung it onto our tree.

We intend to make many more as Christmas approaches… a whole array of colorfully hand painted glass Christmas ornaments.
