painted shoes

Get artsy with your sneakers!  Do you have an old pair of white shoes lying around?  Or maybe you want to spice up your shoe collection?  I asked Taylor, the daughter of one of our managers here at ChristmasOrnaments.com, to share with us how she made her cool painted shoes!

Taylor is excited to share with you the shoes she designed!  She says painted shoes are very popular right now, and even country singing star Taylor Swift has her own line of painted sneakers!

Supplies You Will Need To Make Painted Shoes

She bought her “look-a-like Keds” at her local Target store.  They are plain white canvas sneakers.  Any brand should work just fine!

The supplies you will need to paint the shoes are simple:

  • Acrylic paint
  • Small paint brush
  • Paint pens
  • Permanent markers
  • Pencil

Getting Started On Your Painted Shoes!

First, cover the area you are working on with newspaper and gather your supplies.  You will need to remove the shoe laces and cover the out-sole of the shoe with tape.  This will keep these areas white.

Get Artsy

You are the artist so the design is up to you!  Let your imagination run wild!  Make your painted shoes as colorful as you like!  Draw a scene, chevron pattern or decorate with any theme you like.  Taylor loves the city!  She used a pencil first to draw the outline of her city skyline scene.  She used light blue acrylic paint to provide the backdrop for the skyline.  The skyscrapers are painted tan and outlined with a black Sharpie so they stand out.  She used silver acrylic paint on the trim and dark blue paint on the sides.

Taylor also designed a pair of painted shoes with random shapes.  For this pair, she drew the shapes in pencil first to make sure she had matching patterns on both shoes.   She then traced over the pencil with a black Sharpie marker, and she used a neon green paint pen to color in the sides.
