Hi, I’m Donni Webber, a writer of my own DIY blog. When Dianne Weller, owner of ChristmasOrnaments.com contacted me to see if I’d be interested in creating some special Christmas ornament DIY projects for her, I was delighted and jumped at the chance to write for this wonderful site that’s full of unique and decorative Christmas Ornaments. Today I want to show you how easy it is for you to make toadstool Christmas ornaments with clay.

We love to use Sculpey or other clay to make adorable Christmas ornaments. And being from a family of toadstool lovers, making toadstool Christmas ornaments is a firm favorite in our home. Resembling the popular “toad” character from the Mario Brothers video game, children will love to help make this Christmas ornament which will truly stand out on your tree. Or, rather than using them as Christmas ornaments, they can be a decorative piece hanging on your desk, in a child’s locker, or a backpack decoration!

The supplies we needed:

  • red and white Sculpey (found online or at Michaels or Joann’s))
  • string
  • a sharp knife
  • a piece of wire

Time to make : 15 minutes

Time to bake : 30 minutes

Break the Sculpey into half (we like our toadstool ornaments to be nice and big)

Roll the red clay into a ball.

Use your sharp knife to cut the ball in half… you now have two toadstool tops.

With clean hands, break off a small piece of white clay and roll it into a small ball.

With your thumb, press it into a flat circle.

Press the white circle onto the red toadstool top. Repeat to make many round toadstool dots of varying diameters… the randomly sized white dots look very cute indeed!

Use the piece of wire to pierce a hole into the toadstool top.

Thread the string for hanging through the hole, tie it into a knot and trim the knot.

Break off some white clay and make a toadstool stem. Push the stem over the string knot to hide the knot.  Then bake in the oven at 200 degrees for 30 minutes.
