Chinese Reverse Painting Process
Painting glass balls on the inside is a Chinese tradition that began in the 17th century. Using water color or enamel paints, these ornaments become a work of art. The tedious process includes first outlining an image on the inside of the glass, then shading the image and finally adding color. Depending on the intricacy of the design, each ornament can take a day to several weeks to complete.
