Porcelain

Due to its resemblance to the translucent surface of the cowrie shell, the word porcelain comes from the old Italian word porcellana. It is made from clay or other raw materials that are heated to extremely high temperatures in a kiln. The strength of the material and translucence comes from the glass that is created through this process.
