The earliest glass was made out of sand, plant ash and lime, and its earliest use was as a glaze for pottery before it was fired, with mouth-blowing glass not being discovered until the first century BC. The fine hand-blown process that you can see in these ornaments is delicate and intricate, with the slender threads of glass being woven together to create these ornate creations of art.
